update?

Hi...
So, I don't have the internet at home anymore which is one reason why new news from me is far and few between!

I'm alive. I'm happy. Teaching is going very well this year. Mike makes me smile every day...things are definately going well there!

I purchased a new Taylor 814ce guitar this week...having a LOT of fun with that!!

I hope everyone is doing well...keep in touch!
Love,
Janine

i'm running a marathon!

so...i got talked into running in the Chicago Marathon in October.
I started training today...so far it's hard, and all i did was run 2 blocks/walk 2 blocks 10 times. I don't really know how to run yet, i think i need to read about it a little more, but I do know that if i don't train i'm not going to make it!  Running in Chicago is fun though because the beach is beautiful and it's fun to look at all of the buildings, i don't think they will ever get old to me! If you have any running advice, i'd love it!

summer plans etc.

Update time...

The life of a first year teacher is a busy one! Only 13 teaching days left though, which is super exciting for me!

So I'm moving out of my Wheaton house June 1st, and into my friend Paula's apartment in Chicago for the summer! Paula is going to be working at a camp in Alaska for the summer, so I get to live in her apartment and watch her orange cat Owen :) My summer place is on North Park Avenue in Chicago, it's about 3 blocks away from the North Avenue beach, and all of the shopping/adventures awaiting me!

I'm taking a 2 week 4 credit master's class at VanderCook college in June. It's the Orff Level One class, and depending on my job in the fall, it could come in very handy!

Speaking of the job, I've signed my contract with District 15 for the fall (the same place I'm currently at) but I don't know my exact job description yet. In June they'll start the interview process to hire an orchestra teacher. They are starting a string program, so if I got the job, it would mean being the first orchestra teacher in the district ever! If I don't get the job, I will just stay in my current general music position, and that will be fine too.

I'm still dating Mike...10 months this week!

Other events to celebrate: Noelle has been out of the house for a week, and she should be gone for one more. She moved out most of her stuff a while ago, went home to PA to substitute teach for a while, then she's coming back for a week to go to some conference, then move out for good. So far I've enjoyed such luxuries as: keeping my towel and toothbrush in the bathroom, knowing that the dishes in the cupboards are clean, opening up the fridge without seeing any mold, and a smile on my face every time I come home.

I think that's all for now, if you're going to be around Chicago for the summer...let me know!

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS!

Wednesday, December 07, 2005

So here's life lately:
I love teaching, the kids are great, and our Winter Holiday Concert went really well on Monday night. It was my first concert ever, and i've had a great time preparing my 3rd-5th graders for it. I'd say most of my life is going pretty well right now. The sad thing is that Mike's 86 year old grandma (who we are both very close to) is coming home from the hospital tomorrow to die at home. They're giving her about a week to live and hospice is setting up stuff at home. So, we're pretty sad about that. She asked me to play violin in her funeral though, which was nice.

So, my roommate situation is just not good. Stephanie told me the day after thanksgiving that "surprise!" she's moving out. I was shocked. So i've done my best to look for a new roomie, and one girl Noelle has contacted me, and i need to call another one back to set up a time for a walk through. I hope i find someone soon. If i don't find someone (cuz stephanie sure isn't looking for anyone at all!) stephanie will have to pay her old rent and her new rent! That would suck for her, but she really got herself into this situation in the first place.

More about stephanie...i've know for quite some time that she will lie (especially to men) to get things. She seems to swing the situation towards her so people feel sorry for her, and change their schedules for her (she once told people at work that she had to babysit for a sick 3 month old whos parents were going to a funeral when she was really DOG SITTING for a FRIEND). etc etc etc. All the time she's lying. Well, silly me was like "Oh Janine, you're friends with Stephanie, she wouldn't lie to you, and if she did, you'd see right through it."  Oops! So my big program was on Monday, and i told her the date back in October and have reminded her of it every week or so and she always said "oh yeah, i'll get that day off of work, etc" but the week before she said "oh, i have to work i couldn't get off." So i'm bummed, but life goes on. I go to my concert, it's great, i'm proud, (my parents drove in  from michigan too!) and when i get home i'm sitting on the couch eating soup when stephanie walks in. She's all dressed up, and she's carring a to go bag from a restraunt. She puts it away then walks in to the room i'm in and is all gushy and How was your concert, i bet it was AMAZING...i wish i could have been there, blah blah blah" and i tell her it was good and asked what she did. She said "oh, well, i saw a movie with my friends at 4pm, then went to a meeting at 7 to work on my project (my concert was at seven). Something seems wrong with this situation, and i'm not dumb. Later today i went into the bathroom and what was in the garbage? A movie ticket stub marked 6:45! She totally lied to me, skipped my performance, and went to a movie!!!!  Also, she's been staying up late watching tv, then waking up early to take a shower...well i get in the shower every day at 7...i have since school started cuz my schedule doesn't change. Today i get into the shower and at 7:05 she walks in and says "you're still in the shower, you better hurry up" so i got mad and took an extra long shower. She makes me so mad. She's also just been antagonizing me all the time...like she's trying to make me want her to move out. I like her, i really do, i wish she wasn't leaving, but she is, and i hope that i can just hold it all together and not yell at her the next time i see her. I've been praying for me, and for her, that God would shower down his grace on the whole situation.....AHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I'm glad i got that all out. Thanks for reading :)
